Garage: Car Care & Service Log — Privacy Policy

The short version

Garage does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data. Everything you enter — your vehicles, fuel fill-ups, service records, maintenance reminders, photos, and notes — stays on your device.

What we collect

Nothing. The app has no user accounts, no analytics, no advertising SDKs, and no third-party trackers. We do not collect your name, email, location, device identifiers, or usage data.

What we store on your device

The app saves your records (vehicles with their make/model/year, VIN, odometer, and unit preferences; fuel fill-ups; service, repair, and modification history; maintenance reminder intervals; and any photos or notes you add) locally on your device using SwiftData and the system preferences store. This data:

• Stays on your device only
• Is not transmitted anywhere
• Is removed if you delete the app

VIN decoding

Adding a vehicle by VIN is optional. If you tap Decode VIN, the app sends only that VIN to the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's free public vPIC service (vpic.nhtsa.dot.gov) to look up the make, model, and year, which are then filled in for you. Nothing else is sent — no name, no account, no device identifier — and the VIN is not stored or used by us in any way. NHTSA's vPIC is a free government API that requires no key or registration. If you'd rather not use it, just enter your vehicle's details by hand; the app works fully without it.

Maintenance reminders

Garage shows upcoming and overdue maintenance inside the app (the "Due Soon" list), computed on-device from your odometer and the intervals you set. The app does not use push notifications or any server.

In-app purchases

Garage offers a one-time Garage Unlock purchase ($6.99) that adds multiple vehicles, PDF/CSV resale-history export, and custom reminders; one vehicle plus core logging and the standard reminders are free, with a 48-hour free trial of the unlocked features. Purchases are processed by Apple through StoreKit. We do not see your Apple ID, payment method, or billing information — Apple handles all of that under their own privacy policy. The app only learns whether a successful purchase is associated with the active Apple ID on this device.

What we share

Nothing. We have nothing to share because we collect nothing.

Third-party services

None for analytics, advertising, crash reporting, or AI. The only outbound request the app makes on your behalf is the optional NHTSA VIN lookup described above, plus Apple's StoreKit for purchases.

Network access

The app does not require an internet connection to function. The only network calls it can make are: the optional NHTSA VIN lookup (only when you tap Decode VIN), Apple's StoreKit servers (to fetch the unlock price or restore a prior purchase), and any outbound links you tap (which open in Safari). No other network requests are made.

Children's privacy

Garage is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone, including children.

Your rights

Since no personal data is collected or stored off your device, there is nothing for us to access, correct, or delete on your behalf. To remove all locally stored app data, delete the app from your device.

Changes to this policy

If the app changes in a way that affects this policy, we will update this page and revise the effective date above.
