Steam: Sauna Dose Calc — Privacy Policy
Effective 2026-06-10
The short version
Steam does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data. Everything you enter (session date, duration, temperature, sauna type, notes) stays on your device.
What we collect
Nothing. The app has no user accounts, no analytics, no advertising SDKs, and no third-party trackers. We do not collect your name, email, location, device identifiers, or usage data.
What we store on your device
The app saves your sessions and preferences locally on your device using Apple's SwiftData on-device store and UserDefaults. This data:
- Stays on your iPhone or iPad
- Is never transmitted off your device
- Is included in your iCloud device backup if you have iCloud backup enabled, per Apple's standard backup behavior
- Is deleted when you delete the app
In-app purchases
Steam is a one-time, paid-up-front app ($4.99). There are no in-app purchases, no subscriptions, and no recurring charges. The purchase is handled entirely by Apple's App Store; we never see your payment method, name, address, or any other purchase detail.
Network use
The app does not make any network calls. There are no servers we operate, no analytics endpoints, and no third-party SDKs that contact remote services. Tapping a citation link opens the source URL in Safari; that traffic is between Safari and the source, not between Steam and any server we operate.
Health data
Steam does not integrate with HealthKit. It does not read from or write to Apple Health. Sauna sessions you log in Steam stay in Steam.
Not a medical device
Steam is a calculator, a citation reference, and a session log. It does not diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any condition. It cites peer-reviewed sauna dose-response literature from the Kuopio Ischemic Heart Disease Study cohort — Laukkanen et al. 2015 JAMA Internal Medicine (PMID 25705824), Laukkanen et al. 2017 Age & Ageing, Laukkanen et al. 2018 BMC Medicine (PMID 30486813), and the Laukkanen et al. 2018 Mayo Clinic Proceedings synthesis paper — as references for users who already use a sauna. Hazard ratios shown in the app are reported as observational findings from the named cohort, never as personalized risk-reduction guarantees. Treatment decisions are the user's responsibility.
Cardiovascular safety
Sauna is contraindicated for unstable cardiovascular conditions, recent myocardial infarction, severe untreated hypertension, and orthostatic hypotension. Pregnancy requires clinician sign-off. Alcohol pre-session increases sudden cardiac death risk. Per Laukkanen, Laukkanen, & Kunutsor 2018 Mayo Clinic Proceedings § Safety considerations. Consult a clinician before adopting a regular sauna routine if you have any cardiovascular condition.
Children
Steam is a utility for adults who use a sauna. We do not knowingly collect any data from any user, including users under 13.
