Common questions
What's free, and what does Tap Pro add?
The carbonation calculator is free permanently: pick a beer style or set the volumes of CO2, enter your serving temperature, and get the regulator PSI. Tap Pro ($6.99, one-time) unlocks the line-balancing solver, saved kegerator/keg setups, and the foamy-pour troubleshooter. No subscription.
Where do the numbers come from?
Carbonation pressure uses the standard carbonation formula — a published curve-fit to the ASBC data, within about 0.3 PSI of the Brewers Association's published chart (finer than a regulator can be set). Line balancing follows the American Homebrewers Association's "A Balancing Act," cross-checked with BeerSmith, Micromatic, and KegWorks. Beer-style carbonation volumes are community-standard ranges derived from BJCP style descriptions (BJCP describes mouthfeel, not exact numbers), shown as ranges.
Why does the 3/16" line show two different resistance values?
Because the sources genuinely disagree: AHA, Micromatic, and BeerSmith cite about 3.0 PSI/ft for 3/16" vinyl, while KegWorks cites 2.2. Tap defaults to 3.0 (the most-cited value) and tells you so. If your pours come out a touch fast, recalculate at 2.2.
How does the carbonation calculator work?
Choose a beer style (or set the volumes of CO2 directly), set your serving temperature, and Tap gives the regulator pressure to hold that carbonation at equilibrium. Warmer beer needs more PSI for the same carbonation. There's an altitude adjustment (about +1 PSI per 2,000 ft).
How does the line-balancing solver work?
Enter your keg pressure, line type, and the vertical rise from keg to faucet, and Tap gives the line length for a balanced pour — or switch to "Check my line" to see what pressure a line you already have is balanced for. It uses the AHA method: line resistance × length + 0.5 PSI per foot of rise + about 1 PSI faucet reserve.
I bought Tap Pro on another device. How do I restore?
Open More → Restore Purchases. Your unlock will be restored from the App Store account that originally purchased.
Does the app work offline?
Yes — Tap never makes general network requests. The exceptions are Apple's StoreKit (to fetch the unlock price and restore purchases) and the source links you tap (which open in Safari). All calculations and saved setups are local.
Is Tap a guarantee?
No. Tap is a planning aid for homebrewers and kegerator owners. Your beer, gear, and conditions will vary — use it as a starting point and adjust to taste.
How do I delete my data?
Delete the app from your iPhone or iPad. All local data (saved setups, preferences) is removed along with it.
